Immanuel
School
to celebrate
NLSW;
Technology aids teaching, learning
Immanuel
Lutheran
School
will join hundreds of other LCMS schools in celebrating National
Lutheran Schools week March 1-9.
While
details remain to be completed for Immanuel activities, the popular
celebration at
Saxony
Lutheran
High School
will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 1.
Six elementary schools—from
Farmington
to
Cape Girardeau
—plus the high school, will participate in a program that
traditionally has drawn 1,000 people.
With
the new year,
Immanuel
Lutheran
School
began a new semester. The
boys completed their basketball season, including the tournament, in
January. The girls will
finish in February and play their tournaments during the first weeks of
March. Students who earned
their Accelerated Reading point during the first semester participated
in a bowling party on Jan. 13.
A new
technical addition is assisting the instruction in kindergarten.
A Smartboard will allow the teacher to use Power Point and other
electronic media for teaching. The
Smartboard will be demonstrated during the PTL meeting at
6:30 p.m. on Feb. 24.

The school also acquired
a digital projector. Students
in upper grades will use the projector to show pictures and visuals as
part of their reports. Teachers
will be able to use the projector for other instruction.
Principal William Unzicker recently observed as eighth-grade
students made book reports using Power Point presentations they
developed in computer lab.
A recent story in the Republic-Monitor
raised visibility of the OASIS program and the school.
Unzicker says, “OASIS continues to be successful.
We are pleased with the volunteers who come and work with the
kids.”
“Our
students continue to have their projects,” comments Unzicker.
He pointed to the recent Republic-Monitor article about the eighth grade project to
communicate with members serving in the military.
The students sent letters and cookies to each of the military
personnel depicted in a display in the church narthex.
The National Junior Honor Society members continue to do
recycling of ink cartridges, paper and magazines at the school.
Behind the school is a recycling container in which to leave
these items.
PTL
Lenten fish fries will be held on March 13 and March 27.
The menu will include fried fish, slaw, beans, potatoes, drinks
and dessert.
“We
continue to provide a high quality Christian education,” Unizicker
observes. Recently, he has
been evaluating potential sources of income beyond tuition and church
support. “We have been
successful with grant requests and find that helps when we reapply for
grant renewals,” he says.
School
to host Lenten suppers
Beginning on Ash Wednesday,
Immanuel
Lutheran
School
will host suppers between the Wednesday
services throughout the season of Lent. Students and their parents will
prepare, host and serve the meals from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. in the
cafeteria.
